All in the name of charity!...

We’ve had a fun-filled day at the Academy today, all in aid of Children in Need, for which we’ve raised £1145!!…. well done everyone and thank you!!

Numerous activities have taken place during break and lunch (designed to entertain students and humiliate staff!!) including; a male staff leg wax, blind make-up application, wet sponges, a competition to design a Pudsey Minecraft, a Rubik’s Cube challenge, tug of war and a Pudsey ball rolling competition to name just a few!

Today was also a non-uniform day with a voluntary contribution of £1 going towards Children in Need, and students also had the opportunity to buy cupcakes and Pudsey bear biscuits with profits going to Children in Need.

Here are some photos of the day’s activities!

This girl can…and did!

Congratulations to Mrs McGrath who has completed a skydive for the Breast Cancer Haven in Leeds, raising over £1200! We’re proud of you!

One slimy update!…

Thank you to Year 7 form groups for entering the LRC’s ‘name the snail’ competition. The winning names, submitted by Holly Brook, were Ant and Dec! Well done Holly Brook…you snailed it (!) and have won your form a big box of biscuits!!

Spooktacular start to our journalism project

Our journalism project has got off to a spook-tacular start with our budding reporters visiting some of Horbury’s most haunted locations!

Students taking part in the BBC School Report scheme decided to investigate the town’s ghostly goings-on as part of a debut video feature called ‘Haunted Horbury,’ and they soon discovered there could be some truth in the terrifying tales of beastly boggarts and ghastly ghouls.

Take a look at their video on our news page here ……if you dare!

Next week, go large at no extra cost!...

Next week, why not try one of our main meal deals and add a large drink at no extra cost?!

From aspiration to inspiration: our STEM Club journey

Take a look at Mrs Brooks’ news article about our STEM Club, featured on STEM Learning’s website. STEM Learning are hoping our success will inspire other schools to set up a STEM Club of their own - well done Mrs Brooks!

And finally…

Look at these wonderful model cells produced by some of our Year 7 students in Mrs Horner’s science lesson!

PS…

You may remember I told you about Lucas Waite winning a competition to spend a morning of tennis coaching with tennis ace, Jamie Murray?! Well I’ve heard Lucas had a fantastic time and did the Academy proud in how he performed on the day - here’s how he got on!
