Wakefield Hospice Enterprise Visit

This morning a group of Year 10 students visited Wakefield Hospice for what was the final part of an enterprise project which began in Spring 2017.

Students received a warm welcome and were taken on a tour of the hospice, before presenting their final enterprise pitch to the Hospice’s Fundraising Team. Ideas included producing artwork in collaboration with other Wakefield schools in a bid to develop products that can be sold on the high street, a bike-a-thon challenge, and adapting the Wakefield 10k to incorporate several Wakefield schools.

The wining idea, which will now be turned into an event in the Summer Term, was the bike-a-thon. However, Wakefield Hospice were so enthused by our students’ ideas, they want to work with all of their ideas in some capacity over the next two years!

Well done to everyone who took part, particularly the winning team; Morvyn Gardiner-Mackie, Hollie Bradbury and Lucy Squires.

.…And a big thank you to Wakefield Hospice for your contribution to what has been an exciting and rewarding project!

Rome and Berlin trips for Year 11

At the end of half term, some of our Year 11 students jetted off to Rome and some to Berlin, both managing to fit an awful lot into just three days! Here’s what they got up to…

In Rome, students managed to visit all of the main tourist spots such as; the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum and Vatican City, plus many more awe-inspiring places, filled with history and intrigue. They also made room for a spot of shopping and some tasty Italian food, followed by some 200 different flavours of ice-cream!

The Berlin cohort visited Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, Hitler’s Topography of Terror on the site of the old SS building looking at life in Nazi Germany, the Holocaust memorial, Hitler’s bunker, the Olympic Stadium built by Hitler to host the 1936 Olympics, the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, as well as a tour around the Reichstag..…Mr Care also treated students to his ‘mystery history tour’! Then, for a bit of light relief they managed to squeeze in some bowling, shopping, a trip to the cinema and a Union Berlin football game!

Students on both trips were an absolute credit to the Academy! You can see how much fun they had!…
